Coach Ray Brown
Southeastern District
Coach Of The Year
2003 Season

This was clearly the best team in the 10-year history of field hockey at Deep Creek.  The team enjoyed three great captains and parental support not seen before.  It was the youngest team (after year one, of course) with a 0.7 years average experience but the team played together and the results were five new records as follow:  Highest scorer:  Casie Mills (13),  most wins=5; most district wins=3; highest number of girls to score=8; and most scores in a season=27.  The girls played on a new home field at Deep Creek Elementary and this was the single most important factor in the team's grasp of the game.  More girls, however, are playing in the off-season and this bodes well for Deep Creek field hockey.  As said, it was a total team effort but special thanks to the top thirteen in the coaching points as recorded on the sideline during the games.  They are:  Heather Hignutt, Ashley Hartley, Whitney Robins, Brittany Hignutt, Desiree Derwoed, Kelsey Britt,Crystal Gregory, Tierra Ramirez, Nikole Markum, Casie Mills, Jasmine Smalls,  Ashley Andrews, and Brittany Rosser The record was 5 - 10 overall, 3 - 5 district with wins over Indian River, Warwick, Kings Fork, Hampton, and Oscar Smith. I  would like to add some recognitions.  They are: Team Captains:  Desiree Derwoed, Ashley Hartley, Heather Hignutt Co-MVPs:  Ashley Hartley, Heather Hignutt Best First Year:  Tierra Ramirez Most Versatile:  Nikole Markum Best Goalie Ever:  Brittany Hignutt Most Improved:  Whitney Robins The rest will be kept secret until awards night.
