I am currently a libray-media
specialist. I taught in the marketing education department.I was
the junior class sponsor for the classes of 1990, 91, 92, 93,
94, and 96. I was also the senior class sponsor for the classes
of 1996, 97 and 1998. That means I did nine proms! I was the
sponsor when we swtiched from the Jr-Sr prom to an all senior
prom. I have also sponsored the National Honor SOciey, Yearbook,
the SADD club, After Prom Party and the Debate team. I now the
wonderful alumnus I have worked with are doing well and would
love to hear from them!

Retired from Education after 31 years: 14 in Chesapeake and 17 in
Virginia Beach
Retired as a high school principal after 17 years.
Lillian J. Donnally
I substituted for one year (1972-1973)at DCH. I worked
from September 1973 to June 1976 as a Study Hall Monitor. This was a valuable
experience for me, as I went on to graduate from Elon College and have been
teaching for the past 29 years at Indian River High School here in Chesapeake.

Edna G. Parson

Edna Garrett Parson, 95,
died Oct. 12, 2006, at her granddaughters home. A resident of
Tappahannock, Va., and formerly of Deep Creek in the city of Chesapeake,
Mrs. Parson was a retired educator of social sciences for Chesapeake
City school system with more than 20 years of service. She was a life
member of Deep Creek Baptist Church and faithful member to Ephesus
Baptist Church in Dunnsville, Va. A daughter, Eula Garrett Hisey,
preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Arthur "Buck" Parson;
three granddaughters, Jacquelyn Parson Burns of Manassas, Va., Glenda
Hisey and JoAnne Hisey; and one great-granddaughter, Lyndsay Cushard,
all of Mansfield, Ohio. The Parson family will receive friends Tuesday
from 6 to 8 p.m. at Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. location,
where services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in
the Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements by Everly Funeral Home in Fairfax,

Elizabeth Carey Walters

CHESAPEAKE, VA -- Shirley Carey Walters, 71, of the
1700 block of Cedar Road, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2005 at her
residence. Born in the Deep Creek section of Chesapeake, she was the
daughter of the late Judson H. and Elizabeth Rowe Carey. In addition to
her parents she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Johnnie A.
Walters, Sr. She was an active member of Grassfield Baptist Church, the
Willing Workers Sunday School Class and the Women’s Missionary Union.
Mrs. Walters retired from the Chesapeake Public Schools after serving as
the Attendance Clerk at Deep Creek High School for more than 28 years.
She loved being with young people and challenged them to complete their
education. Survivors include her children, Karen W. Evans and husband
Brad, Johnnie A. Walters, Jr. and wife Cheryl, Sheree W. Best and
husband Stephen and Debbie W. Billips and husband Bobby. Her life was
immeasurably brightened by her grandchildren, Kyle, Kelli, Johnnie (“J.T.”),
Stephen and Christian, all of whom she loved dearly. Additionally she
was the “adopted Grandma” of Phillip, Alexandra and Madison as well as
many others. Other survivors include her mother-in-law, Josephine B.
Walters; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer and Linda Walters, Guy and
Kitty Walters and Gene and Jennifer Walters and many well loved nieces
and nephews. An only child she loved Catherine C. Stewart and Metta B.
Rich as “the sisters God gave her as an adult”. A celebration of her
life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2005 in
the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar
Road, Chesapeake. Rev. Norman March will officiate. Interment will
follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends
from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shirley C. Walters
Attendance Scholarship Fund at any Towne Bank location or to the
Building Fund of Grassfield Baptist Church, 1772 Cedar Road, Chesapeake,

Technology Education

John Skinner Owens of the 2100 block of Rock Creek Drive peacefully went home
Sept. 9, 2004. He was the son of the late Dr. John H. and Catherine S. Owens.
Mr. Owens was born in Norfolk and was educated in the Norfolk public schools
graduating from Booker T. Washington High School. He attended Norfolk State
University receiving a BS in technology education and Virginia State University
receiving a master's in technology education. He was a technology education
teacher and headed the vocational technology department at Deep Creek High
School in Chesapeake for 34 years. He retired in 2001. He was a member of First
Calvary Baptist Church, where he served on the Federal Credit Union Board. He is
survived by his wife of 39 years, Alvahdine Williams Owens; a son, John L.
Owens; a daughter, Katrina M. Owens; a brother, Andrew Skinner; six nieces; two
nephews; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and many other relatives and
friends. A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in First
Calvary Baptist Church at Henry and Wide streets, Norfolk. The Rev. Dr. Johnnie
L. White is officiating. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park.

Thomas C. Hathaway Jr.
History
CHESAPEAKE --
Capt. Thomas C. Hathaway Jr.,
U.S. Army retired, 77, died on Oct. 3, 2002, at Chesapeake General Hospital.
He was born in Portsmouth to the late T.
Carleton Hathaway and Mattie Savage Hathaway. He was a graduate of the Virginia
Military Institute, Class of 49-C. In World War II he served in India with the
1877th Engineers in the CBI Theater. He also served in Korea in 1957-58 and with
the 2nd Armored Calvary in Germany also with the 4th Armored Division in
Germany. After retirement from active duty, he taught at Deep Creek High School
until June 1983.
He was a member of St. Matthew's Angelican
Church, Newport News.
An active Mason, he was past master of Lake
Drummond Lodge, Past High Priest Cradock RAC No. 72, past commander of
Portsmouth Commandery No. 5, past president of National Sojourners Chapter 352,
past commander Gosport Chapter Heroes of '76, past sovereign master AMD Council
No. 155 and Member KYCH Rose of Sharon Priory No. 2. He was also a member of the
Burma Star Association and the Company of Military Historians.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years,
Elizabeth Shaw Hathaway; son, Thomas C. Hathaway III and his wife Myra;
daughter, Michie Hathaway Schrock and husband Patrick; daughter, Margaret
Hathaway Retinger and husband John; and six grandchildren, T. Carleton Hathaway
IV, Marjorie Elizabeth Hathaway, Laura Judith Hathaway, Michie Coleman Schrock,
John Charles Retinger III and Grace Elizabeth Retinger. He is also survived by a
sister, Judith F. Hathaway, and was predeceased by a brother, William Savage
Hathaway.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday
at Snellings Funeral Home, 1144 George Washington Highway N., Chesapeake. Burial
will be private. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral
home on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
contributions be made to a charity of choice.
